GlobalCAMPUS Community of Practice

Global Collaboration to Advance Postsecondary Student Mental Health and Well-Being Research

March 21–22, 2025 | Vancouver, Canada

The 2025 GlobalCAMPUS Summit marked the official kick-off of the GlobalCAMPUS Community of Practice (CoP) — a new international initiative led by the University of Toronto to advance postsecondary mental health and well-being research.

Hosted by Dr. Kristin Cleverley, with collaborators from the University of British Columbia, King’s College London and the University of Toronto Mississauga and Scarborough, this two-day summit brought together 45 participants from 14 institutions across 5 countries. Attendees included students, researchers, faculty, staff, and mental health professionals all committed to building a collaborative, cross-cultural approach to student mental health research.

Summit Highlights:

  • Official launch of a Canadian-led global CoP to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  • Formation of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to support focused work on key themes in student mental health research.
  • Development of initial guiding principles centred on equity, collaboration, and action-oriented research.

What’s Next:

The CoP will continue to grow through two foundational phases:

  • Phase One: Define the CoP’s mission, vision, and governance; map key people and projects across the network.
  • Phase Two: Launch two core working groups:
    • A Research Core to drive global collaborative research.
    • A Knowledge Mobilization Core to develop accessible tools and resources.

This summit and the launch of the GlobalCAMPUS CoP were made possible through funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and with the support of Inlight, Student Mental Health Research Initiative at UofT.
